Nut Of The Week

This actually could be a daily feature - after all there seems to be no shortage of nuts! A virtual parade of pathetic lunacy and you wouldn't even have to leave the North American continent or the continental United States for that matter.

Now, don't get me wrong, Canada has it's share of morons and sociopaths, but generally speaking we rarely treat them as national treasures!

A catch up....

Last week Charlie Sheen placed high on my list of nuts. Unless you've been living in a hollowed out log (sorry Fred Penner!) you would have heard his story.

Fired from his sit-com 'Two And A Half Men' where the 45 year old actor was earning $1.8 million per episode after he launched an avalanche of nasty remarks regarding fellow cast members and the writers, producers and network. Charlie Sheen had obviously decided that outrageous  trumps meager talent and recently  announced that he is taking his insanity on the road.

"My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not An Option", which is scheduled to begin in Detroit on April 2, is reportedly having Snoop Dog as a musical guest, and an  Associated Press reports says that the opening Anthem is being sung by a porno star.

The tour was reported as sold out in 18 minutes which would have been a Ticketmaster record. However, on April 1, 2011 the Detroit Free Press stated that as of March 30 that there were over 1000 tickets available from a third-party reseller (scalper front?), some at 15% less than the cheapest seats sold at the Fox Theater, suggesting a 'softening demand' for Charlie Sheen.

As of early last week , tickets for the main floor of the Detroit show, originally $52, were going for as little as $14 each on StubHub, according to ABC News.

Sources connected with the concert tour are saying that  the deal is for Charlie to perform on 21 dates. He'll get 85% of the profits, with Live Nation getting the remaining 15%. Charlie's cut is projected to average between $250,000 - $275,000 for each show.

And there's more ... Charlie will get additional $$$ for after-parties and merchandising with 200,000 pieces of merchandise already shipped out for the show.

Later this month he is appearing in two shows at Massey Hall in Toronto. One  could always hope that Canadians might  snub Sheen's Toronto appearances if only to show that we view mental health problems as a disease, not an admirable attribute.

Alas, that is not likely to be the case, as Canadians - like our friends to the south, have a fascination with freaks.

The big nut this week is pastor Terry Jones and his side kick pastor Wayne Sapp . These two bit religious hucksters, are leaders of the Dove World Outreach an obscure christian church in Florida. In 2010 they had announced plans to burn a copy of the Qur'an as a protest against the planned construction of a mosque near ground zero in New York. This was cancelled in the face of condemnation by Barack Obama, the Pentagon, the state department and international outrage.

At the time Sarah Palin, an even bigger idiot than this so called, 'Man of God', wrote  "People have a constitutional right to burn a Qur'an if they want to, but doing so is insensitive and an unnecessary provocation – much like building a mosque at Ground Zero,"

Interpol, the Pentagon and others warned that such an act would provoke violent acts around the world by outraged Muslims.

So what does this character do last month?

In front of  a small crowd Jones who is also the author of "Islam Is of the Devil", deliberately set fire to the Muslim Holy Book. And as could be expected  there was violence in the middle east. In Afghanistan a UN Compound was attacked by Muslim extremists and four Nepalese, one Swedish, one Norwegian and one Romanian worker were believed to have been killed.

In the face of this the nervy Jones has called for "immediate" US and UN action against its perpetrators, saying the whole religion of Islam must be held accountable. Sicko!
